Country, bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs strikes a chord in Capital City

Ricky Skaggs, known for striking chords in bluegrass and country music, will be landing in Jefferson City in June.

The singer will open at 7:30 p.m. June 17 at Capital Region MU Health Care Amphitheater, 1425 Riverside Drive. Tickets are $30-$60 depending on seating.

The multi-instrumentalist began as a child prodigy on the mandolin, appearing on television and next to legends on the Grand Ole Opry stage. As his career developed into the 1980s, he lent a voice to the growing "Newgrass" and "New Traditionalist" movements, which adapted bluegrass and country to modern sounds while keeping some traditional elements of the music genres.

He has been honored with inductions into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Musicians Hall of Fame, and in 2018, the National Fiddler Hall of Fame, the IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2020, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts for his contributions to the industry. He has also received 15 Grammy Awards.

Skaggs will present some of his "cross-cultural, genre-bending" country classics at his summer concert.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com. More information can be found at www.crmuamphitheater.com.
