Lausanne Collegiate takes fifth in Great 8 Classic

The Lausanne Collegiate Lynx ran away in the fourth quarter.

After the Lynx (12-2) and the Rogers, Ark. Mounties (4-4) stayed within six points of each other through the first three quarters, the Lynx scored 13 consecutive to open the fourth quarter and built a 47-41 win Friday in the fifth-place game of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.

Jamarcus Powell started the run with a layup, then Seth Grandberry turned a steal into another layup after a Tre Davis free throw. Powell then stole a pass before a Davis 3, three of his game-high 18 points, before a Grandberry jumper for two of his 10 points and a Jayden Bachelor putback layup.

A Tyler Wilson free throw ended the run at the 2:58 mark, leaving the Lynx up 47-33.

The Mounties scored the final eight points of the game to create the final margin.

The teams went back and fourth to a tie at 10 after the first quarter, then a 6-0 Mountie run in the second built a 19-16 Rogers halftime lead.

Lausanne used a 9-0 run from the end of the second through the beginning of the third quarter to retake the lead.

The teams went back and forth to a Lausanne 34-33 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Davis led the game with 18 points for Lausanne, while Powell filled the state sheet with eight points, a game-high seven rebounds, four blocks, four steals and three assists. Grandberry scored 10 points and was named the Lynx’s representative on the all-tournament team.

Graycen Cash earned the Rogers’ representative spot on the all-tournament team with nine points to complement four rebounds and three steals, while Skye Davenport had eight points and four rebounds. Alonzo Porchia added seven points, while Soren Hoyard and Rex Krout each had a co-team high five rebounds.
