Jays wrestling opens season with dual win against Fulton

FULTON -- The Jefferson City Jays began their wrestling season Monday with a 45-27 dual victory against the Fulton Hornets.

Winning by fall for the Jays were Dominic Stafford at 120 pounds, Eli Teiberius at 126, Braden Werdehausen at 144, Cameron McKee at 150, Joe Kuster at 157, Rodney Wilson at 175 and Cohen Davis at 190.

Eric Mejia also won a 9-7 decision at 132 for the Jays.

Losing matches for the Jays were Seth Stumbaugh at 113, Lucas Waite at 138, Luke Mosley at 165, Gideon Duren at 215 and Luke Jenkins at 285.

Both teams were open at 106.

Jefferson City (1-0) will wrestle Friday and Saturday in the Missouri Duals at Helias.

In the girls wrestling dual, the Jefferson City Lady Jays dropped a 42-22 decision to the Fulton Lady Hornets.

Deja’Nette Wallace won by fall at 170 for the Lady Jays and Kyla Finney pinned her opponent at 190. Ava Purvis won by forfeit at 155 and Lexi Dunwiddie won by major decision, 12-4, at 135.

Izzy Eitel lost by fall at 115 and Kaylee Redcay lost by fall at 145.

Jefferson City wrestles Saturday in the Noel Women’s Invitational at Rolla.
