CenturyLink customers to be served by Brightspeed

CenturyLink customers in the Capital City may notice a different company name and logo on their bills beginning in October as a new company takes over the internet and phone service provider's operations.

Brightspeed, a new company established last year, is purchasing parts of CenturyLink's business in 20 states, including Missouri. The change is expected to be finalized on or around Oct. 3, according to a notice to customers from CenturyLink emailed Thursday, and both companies are working to ensure a smooth transition.

The new provider will make use of CenturyLink's existing infrastructure. While customers' account numbers, billing methods, existing add-ons and pricing for both phone and internet services will remain the same, future rates will be determined by the new company and could be subject to change, according to the company's website.

Beyond a different company name and logo, the company said not to expect any major changes to bills right out of the gate.

Customers will be required to sign in to a new Brightspeed account following the transfer. The company does not expect service interruptions for customers amid the transition.

Brightspeed also has plans to invest in new fiber connections in parts of Missouri as near as Boone County, though Cole County and other communities are not included in the current roll-out plans.

The new group was assembled in late 2021 with a team of industry veterans at its helm. The company is set to "initially" be comprised of these CenturyLink assets, sold by parent company Lumen.

More details will be available to customers in the coming weeks, with Brightspeed also expected to reach out and make contact with additional information.
