15-mile Tour de Jeff City to take riders around town by bike

There are a lot of ways Jefferson City embodies #JCStrong, but taking a 15-mile bike ride at 2 a.m. has to be one of the more unique ones.

Come join hundreds of others at 2 a.m. Sunday for Tour de Jeff City, a 15-mile, non-competitive bike ride around Jefferson City under the stars and by the flickering lights of headlamps. The event is free and geared toward all ages.

The bike ride starts and ends at Hy-Vee, 3721 W. Truman Blvd. The route will be "carefully chosen to avoid most major hills" so the moonlit bike ride can be enjoyed by experienced riders and beginners alike. You can keep up to date with the ride by visiting the Facebook event page.

If you plan on participating and are new to night-time bike riding, organizers encourage finding a way to light up your bike. There will be some headlamps available to use at the event, but plan to bring your own if possible, or use taillights, light up helmets or even find a way to light the spokes of your wheels if you're feeling creative.

There are more than 500 total responses on the Facebook event, with more than five dozen marked "going" and 400-plus interested. The Facebook event page is where any weather-related updates will be posted as well.

Happy riding!
