Quinn Chapel event to honor pastor

Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church is hosting a pastor appreciation event at 3 p.m. Sunday in honor of the Rev. Anthony McPherson, pastor of the church located at 415 Lafayette St.

The event is open to the public.

Bishop James Howard, of One in Christ Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker.

McPherson is an ordained itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and has been in the pastoral ministry for 15 years. He led several congregations prior to being assigned to Quinn Chapel in the 2019-20 conference year.

He considers himself a "jazz theologian," one who balances freedom with boundaries, the individual with the group and what is with the pursuit of what might be. He is passionate about the works of transformative ministry and embracing the marginalized.

McPherson has a bachelor of science in business management from the University of Phoenix and a master of divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary. He serves as an instructor for the Missouri Conference Board of Examiners in preparing candidates for ministry in the A.M.E. Church. He works as a community engagement liaison at Mid-America Transplant, St. Louis.

A native of St. Louis, McPherson has three children and two grandchildren.
