Your Opinion: Delay tactics

Dear Editor:

Kevin McCarthy, Republican Minority House leader, finished an eight-hour speech that covered everything from Tienanmen Square to former President Donald Trump not winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Exactly what did he accomplish? He accomplished exactly what a majority of current and former leaders of the Republican Party are doing. Delay, delay and more delay.

Someone of tremendous foresight once observed, "The art of politics is delaying a decision until it no longer matters." Truer words were never spoken in regard to McCarthy's speech or Steve Bannon's refusal to testify in the Jan. 6 uprising at the Capitol Building. Chances are the answers to questions given to Bannon won't be heard until 2022 and the public will have tuned out the results of Bannon and other subpoenaed Republican leaders.

These subtle diversions by the Republican Party will no doubt lead to their overall goal of putting the American public to sleep once more. American voters will again be correct in believing, "Why pay attention to what politicians tell us, as they seldom fulfill their promises no matter what they say."
