Second Baptist Church of Jefferson City will virtually host its seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance Service on Jan. 17.
The featured speaker is to be the Rev. Starlette Thomas, minister to Empower Congregations at the District of Columbia Baptist Convention.
Thomas is a first-generation preacher, ordained minister, activist and principal developer of a "raceless gospel." She writes on the intersections of the sociopolitical construct of race, Christian identity formation and beloved community building, according to a Second Baptist Church news release. She has spoken and presented papers on the doctrine of race, racial anthropology and ecclesiology - locally and globally.
The service will also include performance by soloist LaTrise Wilson and presentation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award.
The service is scheduled at 4 p.m. Jan. 17. It may be viewed on the church's website, 2ndbaptistchurchjcmo.net.
