The first day of election filing saw 11 people file for Jefferson City or local school board elections.

Filing remains open until Dec. 28 for the April 5 election.

By the end of day Tuesday, all five Jefferson City Council positions up for election had one candidate listed.

Each year, one council member from each of the city's five wards is up for election. Council members can serve up to four two-year terms.

All five incumbents can run for re-election.

Incumbent Ward 2 Councilman Mike Lester, Ward 3 Councilwoman Erin Wiseman, Ward 4 Councilman Ron Fitzwater and Ward 5 Councilman Jon Hensley will run for re-election.

Resident Jack Deeken filed for the Ward 1 seat, currently held by Hank Vogt, who did not file Tuesday.

Lester is running for his second term. Wiseman is running for her fourth and final term. Fitzwater and Hensley are running for their third terms.

Those interested in filing can do so with the Jefferson City clerk at City Hall, 320 E. McCarty St., during regular business hours.

Council members must have lived in Jefferson City for at least a year and within the ward they wish to represent for six months prior to the election.

Tuesday also marked the first day of filing for school board positions.

Several new names appeared on the Jefferson City School District ballot; other area districts had only incumbents file on the first day.

There will be two open seats on the Jefferson City School District Board of Education. Incumbents Lorelei Schwartz and Stephanie Johnson have not yet announced if they will seek re-election, according to previous News Tribune reporting.

Residents Anne Bloemke-Warren, Adam Wesley Gresham, Marc H. Ellinger and Erika Leonard filed Tuesday.

Candidates for the Jefferson City Board of Education can file at Central Office, 315 E. Dunklin St.

The Blair Oaks Board of Education has two positions open; only current board member John Weber filed Tuesday. Those interested can file at Central Office, 6209 Highway B in Wardsville.

Cole R-1 of Russellville also has two positions open, which currently belong to Shawn Erhardt and James Case. No one filed for those seats Tuesday. Candidates may file at the district's central office, 13600 Route C in Russelville.

Cole R-5 of Eugene has two positions open, which currently belong to Deanna Smith and Chuck Angerer. Only Smith filed Tuesday. Candidates may file at Central Office, 14803 Missouri 17 in Eugene.
