COLUMBIA - The Fatima Lady Comets went 1-2 in their pool Saturday in the Kewpie Classic at Antimi Sports Complex.
Fatima opened with a 2-1 loss to Father Tolton, then followed that with a 9-3 win against Sedalia Smith-Cotton. The Lady Comets dropped their last game 15-5 to Troy-Buchanan.
Chayce Gier pitched all six innings in the loss to Tolton, striking out six while allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. Her counterpart, Paige Bedsworth, struck out 14 and held Fatima to two hits, one each by Karli Struemph and Faith Jaegers.
Jaegers walked and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first to give Fatima a 1-0 lead. Tolton scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth.
Chesney Luebbering and Kaitlyn Plassmeyer led Fatima with three hits each in the win against Smith-Cotton, while Lauren Brandt had a team-high three RBI. Luebbering and Jaegers each had two RBI and Struemph added two hits.
Taylor Baumhoer was the winning pitcher. In six innings, she allowed three runs on three hits with five walks and three strikeouts.
Troy-Buchanan used a seven-run fourth inning to pull away from Fatima in its final game of the Classic.
Gier struck out two batters in three innings and Baumhoer added one strikeout in 1 innings of relief.
Fatima (9-10) hosts Eugene today in Show-Me Conference action.
