For the first time in more than a century, a new business has opened its doors on a historic plot on Bolivar Street.
Once home to St. Mary's Hospital, which opened in 1905, the new Courtyard by Marriott Hotel officially opened Dec. 10 at 610 Bolivar St.
Ken Ordyk, hotel general manager, said business has been good so far, noting the hotel is still in its early ramp-up stages.
"Every hotel has a ramp period, especially during COVID, which is a little more challenging during most times," Ordyk said.
Ordyk said the historical aspect of the hotel is the most notable feature for the community. In purchasing the old hospital from SSM Health in 2015, Farmer Holding Company opted to save stones from the original building, which were then incorporated into features at the north end of the building, front portico and back patio.
"That's a neat thing to pay homage to the history of the location in Jefferson City," Ordyk said.
The hotel has 121 rooms, as well as a restaurant and bar that is open to the public, indoor pool, fitness center and meeting space that will be available to the community, Ordyk said. The Courtyard also hosts a self-service market that allows for late-night or very early quick bites and drinks, he said.
But the real draw is likely to be the back patio, which features fire tables and views of Jefferson City and the Missouri Capitol, especially at night, he said.
"We have the best view in town," Ordyk said. "It's gorgeous at any time, but especially at night with the Capitol lit up."
The hotel also hosts two fast-charging stations for electric vehicles provided by Ameren Missouri.
