Fire destroyed a detached garage at a residence in eastern Jefferson City on Friday evening.

Firefighters responded around 5:36 p.m. to 6317 Liberty Road after a passing motorist reported the blaze.

Jefferson City interim fire chief Jason Turner said the structure was a total loss. Two vehicles parked outside the garage also were damaged.

Turner said a resident was in the basement of the adjacent home at the time, but evacuated after learning of the blaze.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. Firefighters from the Cole County and Osage fire districts provided assistance during the incident.
