Leah Marie Bucher and Adam Michael Shimmens, both of Kansas City, were married at 4:30 p.m., August 17, 2019, at Christ Community Church - Brookside, Kansas City. Pastor Paul Brandes performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Cara and Darren Adkison, Blue Springs, and Dan and Nicole Bucher, Pleasant Hill. The groom is the son of Steve and Barb Shimmens, Jefferson City. Given in marriage by her grandfather, Mel Rohaus, along with her parents, the bride wore a gown in antique, ivory and silver, delicately beaded and featured an illusion neckline and back. The sparkling sleeveless gown was accented with lace, English net, and beaded embroidery. She completed her ensemble with crystal rhinestones in her hair and carried a bouquet of silk roses, gardenia and peony accented with greenery of eucalyptus, thai leaves, sala and lilly grass with a touch of blue winter berry. The honor attendant was Whitney Butler, Kansas City, friend of the bride. The attendants were Karah Galmiche, Santa Monica, Calif., friend of the bride; Denea McMillin, Lee's Summit, friend of the bride; Ali Gensch, St. Louis, friend of the bride; and Jennifer McBaine, Jefferson City, sister of the groom. They wore gowns in blush with a modified halter neckline, seamed bodice supported by semi-sheer shoulder straps and a sweeping skirt that cascaded from a banded waist. The best man was Nathan Klindt, Blue Springs, friend of the groom. The groomsmen included Brad Shimmens, Jefferson City, cousin of the groom; Trey Kampeter, Jefferson City, friend of the groom; Adam Kraus, Kansas City, friend of the groom; and Warren Mercurio, Ballwin, friend of the groom. The flower girl was Macie McBaine, daughter of Brad and Jennifer McBaine, Jefferson City, niece and goddaughter of the groom. The ushers were Logan Adkison, Blue Springs, brother of the bride, and Jay Shimmens, Kansas City, cousin of the groom. The reader was Denea McMillin, Lee's Summit, friend of the bride. A dinner and dance reception followed the ceremony at The Gallery, Kansas City. A rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom's parents, was held August 16, 2019 at Garozzo's, Kansas City. The bride is a 2007 graduate of Blue Springs South High School, Blue Springs; a 2011 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree; and a 2012 graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University, Olathe, Kan., with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She is Nurse Coordinator at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City. The groom is a 2007 graduate of Helias High School, Jefferson City, and a 2011 graduate of the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Technology degree. He is Senior Account Executive at Stackify, Leawood, Kan. The couple resides in Kansas City and will take a wedding trip to Italy in May.
