Bonnots Mill man charged with manslaughter

A Bonnots Mill man has been charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in connection with an accident that occurred in September in Jefferson City.

Ryan Brauner, 24, is also charged with one count of second-degree assault.

Jefferson City police department reports show the accident occurred on Sept. 15 at Missouri Boulevard and Howard Street. Brauner was going east on Missouri Boulevard and crossed into the westbound lanes, crashing into a vehicle driven by Frank Ovaitt, 67, McLean, Virginia.

Ovaitt and his passenger, Ruth Ovaitt, 57, Jefferson City, were injured.

On Oct. 1, Ruth died from complications related to the injuries she sustained in the crash.

When questioned by authorities Brauner admitted to smoking K2, a synthetic drug, just moments before the crash. He told police he had blacked out and lost control of his vehicle. Brauner also admitted he had smoked K2 in the past and knew the effects it would have on him.

A package of the synthetic drug "Chill Out" was found on his dashboard near his cell phone.
