Even if all of the allegations about fraud were true, they wouldn't change the outcome. The numbers just don't work. That's why West didn't get a recount or an investigation from Florida's GOP election system. The fact that West was an embarrassment to the GOP in Florida and in Congress probably didn't even come into play. The GOP simply can not continue to dwell on their fantasy reasons for losing the last election. They need to adopt a platform and work for policies that will help all the voters so they stand a chance of winning the next one election.

On the other hand, they look around themselves and see their families disproportionately affected by unemployment, lack of access to health care, crime, and incarceration. It's hard to think about lofty goals when your neighborhood is a war zone, and it's why Micheal Steele's comment about "engaging in the conversation" is so empty.

Conservatives can regain the high ground only by claiming the high ground, and that will require dropping major portions of their 2012 campaign platform. They have dug themselves in to the most disgusting positions available regarding sex and families. Once they abandon the efforts to put women and ethnic minorities "back in their 1950's place" they can get back to reminding the voters that they USED to stand for a government that kept its nose out of people's business and bedroms and a government that tolerated religious diversity.
