New JC superintendent named December 19, 2014
Why has there been no call to release water from Truman and lake of the Ozarks?
Would they need more money if they didn't spend it on things like architectural drawing and models of a building that they didn't have funding for on a piece of ground that wasn't theirs?Just another case of govt putting the cart ahead of the horse. And yes I understand that they are not at the max limit that WAS voted on and I have no problem with that.I realize that books will never entirely be replaced by electronic media.Did I miss the purpose of the tax increase they wanted?Maybe they should be courting one of the local millionaires that would like to leave their name on a nice big new state of the art library.
The problem is it isnt one time money. The studies and proposals keep coming. As soon as one fails another is trotted out to replace it.A pig is still a pig no matter what color you paint it!Seems that every elected official wants a big shiny legacy to leave behind for the world to see.Safety first then functional. When those needs are met then we can talk about want lists.
Most of the needs that they want to raise taxes for could have been funded with the money spent trying to promote new funding sources.Hundreds of thousands have been spent on studies of things that the citizens have been very clear they do not want. Not on actual projects, just studies.Architect drawings of convention centers, adrians island, tunnels under railroad tracks that they may not even get permission to build.Seems to be a mentality that if they can see a rendering of it they will love it.When all essential services are funded and a properly funded emergency fund is in place then they can talk about adding bells and whistles.Voting taxpayers have been very clear and vocal about this for some time.Take care of the needs not the wants.
This multi million dollar boondoggle was a bad idea from the beginning. If Mo. was an ideal habitat for elk they would have flourished here years ago instead of moving further northwest to escape "civilization" It would appear that the conservation commission is having to work overtime to find creative ways to spend taxpayers money. Here's an idea if existing programs are all funded adequately return it to it's rightful owners. When was the last time a govt. agency returned excess funds to the people willingly?Far too much of the spend it or loose it mentality. No wonder people are so distrusting of govt. when they say they "need" more money.
Lets see 2.65 mil 1.6 plus 227,000 comes in at just under 2mil. Where is the other 650,000?
Why the cherry picking?Take newer high income businesses with a small voting block and a small [in comparison to the city] upscale subdivision and pass on the mobile home parks and much older businesses near them.Ask the residents and businesses on the east end how much better their services are almost 10 years after annexation.Divide and conquer seems to be the preferred method. Why grab more until existing residents have the quality of service they deserve in a CAPITAL city.
Tresspassers will be shot ! Survivors will be shot again!! These people are not afraid of nthe law or the legal system. It may be harsh but until the law gets some real teeth your right to protect your family and property is more or less your responsibility. Thanks to the prosecuter for realizing this.
