Taking me some time to get oriented with this, also. Thanks for your help.

Sometimes you click on a comment in 'Latest Comment' and it takes you to the article in the Fulton Sun, with no comments. Wierd. Example: Lige's comment on the Hawthorn Bank robbery.

I got a fake Antivirus attempt while working this site on Monday. Say no to AV8 if you see it . . .

Some of these Latest Comments are still taking you to the Fulton Sun. Same story as in the N/T, minus the comments. Also got the fake antivirus hit the other day. My software quarantied it. This is a difficult site. Wish the old site was back. I give up. You win.

We're looking into the commenting snafu. I'm suspecting it's happening on a few stories cross-posted to both sites. It's an advantage that we can do that easily, but a disadvantage that the database may not be sorting the comment links properly to the appropriate site.

Anyone know what time of day the fake anti-virus attack happened? Have any idea the section, page and/or advertising you were seeing at the time? Any information along that line can help as we check for it. A couple of possible explanations come immediately to mind. One, that it happens independent of a visit to this site, like if you picked up something from another source but it didn't trigger until a random later time. Or, considering more than one person is reporting this site as a common denominator, it came from a national advertisement on this site that was compromised, and it may run only sporadically. This trick, unfortunately, is possible as ads become fancier with Flash, javascript and other animation. (It could be something else, too. I've heard of tricks with compromised JPG photos and PDF documents even.)

I'm glad to hear a real anti-virus program stopped it. Even sites like the New York Times have suffered from this compromised ad problem. Facebook has had a slightly different but still pernicious problem lately with hijacked accounts tricking friends into downloading the System Tool fake anti-virus. I use malwarebytes.org, a free anti-malware program to supplement my anti-virus software. It's been vetted by C-Net and other geeks. Malwarebytes was able to get rid of System Tool on my wife's home laptop even after the fake program had disabled the real Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE is a so-so free anti-virus program for Windows). That's an uncompensated recommendation for malwarebytes, btw.

Thanks for the feedback, gang.

'twer Monday morning between 9:00 and 10:00, and this site is all I did during that time. I don't read the ads so I don't know which one it came from.

Thanks for removing all the posts I did not post correctly. I tried to write out my argument separately and then copy and paste it into several posts.

Mr. Brown,

I was sorry to see that you shut down the site about the Blair Oaks principal Mrs. Winslow lossing her job. It looks like to me that you took off all of the post that weren't favorable toward Jones and/or the Blair Oaks School Board. It also looks like that you shut the site down for the same reason. This seems to me to be centorship, I did not know we were living in Communist Russia. If you are a true professional journalist, you need to here both sides of the story, not just what Jones wants you to know. I looks like to me that you have drank some of his "Kool-Aid", and have become blind, and your mind has been poisoned from this Iike some of the other people of Jonesville, I mean Wardsville.

There were posts on both sides of the issue. Removed posts were problematic, not because of the side they supported, but because they taunted others with accusations that went beyond the public record. Other forum abuses were starting to increase at the end. After a few days of active discussion, everyone has had a chance to have their say and it sometimes becomes necessary to close comments to prevent them from disintegrating into repeated abuses of our forum policy. We still encourage everyone to continue expressing opinions by submitting letters to the editor for publication to editor@newstribune.com.

ATTN FORUM: We apparently have been having some technical problems with the forum commenting system that started Thursday afternoon. Most posts are not appearing even though they actually are stored in the system. We're taking steps to straighten this out. We should (knock wood) be able to restore the missing posts when the glitch is addressed. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for your patience. --Rick Brown, online editor, News Tribune
