It's sad so many are cancelled, but my flowers are dying along with the grass. What I don't understand is why they just don't POSTPONE them until wetter weather. We don't HAVE to do it on the 4th of July. Celebrations for anything can be done on other dates (birthdays, anniversaries, etc. - who wants to do them on a weekday) - so why not a fireworks celebration.
About JC - like one said earlier - it's on the river - chances of a stray are limited. But at over 100 degrees all this week, as much as I love it I probably won't be there. I do buy them, but will not shoot them right now.
About party time - hmm, wonder if they are talking about the Henley drunken fest. I have no doubt they WILL do it.
Sequoia - you have a right to your opinion but to even insinuate that our traditions be changed just because you don't agree with it is what offends some on here. I would not go to another country to live and expect them to change their traditions just because I didn't agree with them. But people on here are assuming you have 'come here' from another country. Maybe you were born here?
I have been going there and other Ryan's for more than 20 plus years.
First, I have to agree that the quality had gone downhill quite a bit over the years. Quite often I did have to ask them to reheat my food or I would just take it home and reheat it.
Food was not seasoned well enough for me, like GC does. But some of their food I absolutely loved. I specifically went on Tuesdays and Saturdays for their chicken and dumpling, and I loved their chocolate chip cookies. Other than that, it was just average. But kids had a ball.
This personally hits home because I have a friend who has worked there since it opened, and to act like they are all criminals is sickening. She is not, nor are the dozens of others that I know personally including one man who has 12 children, 8 of which are foster children. There is not a larger heart in the universe and his wife is wheelchair bound. And if you don't want criminals back on the street going after you you should appreciate a place that offers them a second chance.
About Golden Corral. I do not deliberately go to Columbia for it, but everytime I go there that's where I eat. I, too, along with most of the workers at Ryan's, had wanted one to come here because they were not happy with management.
As to dirt. If I worried about that, I would be Howard Hughes. I saw McDonald's employees picking up my pancakes with their bare hands. When I asked my daughter who used to work there said they ALL do that. WHY? What's the matter with gloves or tongs! But I bet all of you complaining go to Mcd's! My stepdaughter used to work at Applebee's, Lee's, KFC, and Wendy's along with some 'high' quality places and she said after working there she won't eat there. WHAT'S LEFT? Brown bag it?
Ok, sorry, but if anyone camps (and I mean CAMP, not camper) there is going to be dirt. Not that restaurants should be dirty, but I don't think any of them are really clean like the way you proabably keep your own kitchen.
