Maybe they realize that at some point the citizens will step up and take back control of the city from the politicians. At some point, people that care about the city and will do their jobs while answering to the citizens will be elected. Once this occurs, work to improve the citizen’s opinion of their city can begin.
The News Tribune has done what I was afraid that they would do. They prepared a nice little “fluff” article that does nothing to answer the questions raised by the first story that addressed Dr. Dykstra severing her ties with the city. Questions that should have been asked: Did Lt Dampf misuse his position and contact Dr. Dykstra’s new employer? If so, why did he feel it necessary to do so and was he told to or did he do it on his own. I would take any comments/statements made by Lt Dampf with a grain of salt since he stated, “the gas chamber was brought back after Dykstra’s departure last week, because JCAS staff needed a way to euthanize wildlife and feral cats. No other dogs and cats have been euthanized since Dykstra’s departure.” Since they have Dr. McCann working, why is it needed, especially if no animals have been euthanized? What about Karen Jennings, is she as horrible as some of the commenters suggest she is. You cannot ask the shelter employees, they fear for their jobs. Volunteers, were any contacted? I realize that volunteers who have quit working at the shelter will be made to look as disgruntled by the city administrator, police department and mayor (that is how people who complain are treated/labeled). Did Ms. Ingle attempt to contact Dr. Dykstra for comment/input into this piece? It does not read as if she did. The article appears to have been pieced together from previous comments made and statistics provided by the city (numbers that can be made to look how the organization that prepared them, want them to look and as such cannot be taken at face value (no I do not believe that the city would never “stretch” the truth for their own benefit). We already know that the city administrator is lacking in areas dealing with numbers and how he placed the blame on a subordinate, even though the city administrator controls the day-to-day operations and is therefore responsible for the actions of his subordinates.

Is not interesting that after all of the comments, the News Tribune has not reported more on this? Are they "investigating" or just waiting for the furor to die down, then back to business as usual? I wonder what Mrs. Wheldon would have done? Would she allow it to continue or would she have used her influence to stop it? It is a shame the new owners of the News Tribune do not show the same interest in the safety/well-being of animals as Mrs. Wheldon did. She started a “no-kill” animal shelter at Callaway Hills that to this day provides shelter for, and seeks good homes for the adoption of, lost or abandoned dogs and cats that otherwise would be euthanized. What a wonder legacy this kindhearted woman left, too bad more that those employed by Jefferson City at the Animal Shelter cannot be more like her when it comes to the treatment of animals.
Fifty people, fourteen of which are lawmakers, give me a break. You cannot get fourteen politicians to agree on anything without adding their own “special” condition (payback for supporters?). Let the medical experts decide what is needed, then let the politicians decide what part(s) will be funded, after they agree on a funding source.
They tried to get control of the Conservations money, failed, now go after teacher pensions. For the sake of educators, I hope they fail in this attempt too.
So she resigned and someone felt it necessary for an armed person to escort her? Is she that dangerous? I see criminals working on the highway that do not have an armed escort. By the way it was handled, I smell something fishy .
The staff work for the city and will parrot what they are told to keep their jobs, which are in short supply, in this city.
Best bet, first will be KMIZ, they seem to carry more of our news, had it been sports related, I would say KRCG.
Obama is working hard to bring Edward Snowden back for a secret trial (meaning he is guilty, no appeal, and go to prison and disappear). I hope Russia tells Obama to get lost, but Russia needs money and we cannot forget the uproar in 2010 when their spies were caught and deported (they owe us one). I hope some country has big enough cojones to stand up to our corrupt government and tell them were to put it and grant him asylum. If he gets asylum, I wonder how long before CIA operatives attempt to kidnap or execute him?
