Having just paid my state taxes, it's obvious to me what needs to be done. Going through the itemizing forms I see literally over 250 ways a person with lots of money and a freshly graduated tax lawyer can exempt, deduct, defer, abate, and avoid paying a substantial amount of their expected Missouri income taxes. Well yes, there is waste in the use of our tax revenues also. The programs for the blind spend money they likely shouldn't. The schools have too many administrators and too few teachers. Both are still underfunded and need to be supported.
A thirty-four percent federal rate and a fourteen percent state rate. No tax on "investment income" but a tax on every consumer expenditure. A bogus "prebate" that would cover about half the additional tax a low-incoem family would pay. That's what it would take in honest terms to replace current revenue streams, so you (not you, literally, but...) could get away from taxes on capital gains and interest.
Oh Tickled, thank God somebody found me! I've been wandering around in here ever since Mr. Long lured me here with promises of candy and "something fun." I hope you left a trail of crumbs and maybe we can both get back to the regular forums . . .
How was this a violation? I really think some of these "rules" should be a little more clear and when we have posts removed, some kind of explanation is needed.
I just found the magic button at the top of my blerg that lets me see all of my posts. I found that one of my most common posts is "This comment was removed by the site staff for violation of the usage agreement." Who knew!?
I realize most of this is discretionary but I call foul on some of these removals. Guess I'm going to have to start copying my comments to keep track of those that are deemed unworthy.
I would too, but there's an element of chance involved. If your post is included in a string of comments that gets removed because of objectionable material, your innocuous comment might look odd when left behind and then read out of context.

A very good arguement for a Flat Tax. However, it would never pass because too many non-value-adding accountants and attorneys would be let go.

I have a post like this too. Can I start my own little forum in here (there)?
