Cos, you're a doll! You definitely have a way of making people smile. Thanks for all you do!
I know several IT people who have left JC to work/live in Columbia and the only reasons I've heard are money and they say Jeff has no decent shopping or restaurants and it's WAY too conservative. In other words, there's nothing to make them want to be here and until attitudes around here change, that's just the way it's going to be.
Did I miss something? When was a registry deemed unconstitutional? Who pays for the National Sex Offender registry? The National Registry for EMTs? It's paid for by the registration fees. So you people think it's ok for people to have to pay a fee for a special ID to vote but you scream and cry at the thought of having to pay a fee to register your gun?
Yes, register every weapon out there, that way it's on file when a crime is committed, can be tied to the owner and expensive resources aren't used chasing things that should be kept track of anyway. If someone side swipes a car and drives away, you can turn in that license plate number and they'll know exactly who owns the car. Give me a rational reason why guns shouldn't be regulated the same way.
Be a Dear, John and look for my comment to Connor about my thoughts on a WELL REGULATED militia. Did you read the Atlantic article? Do you honestly think your AR-15 is going to stand up to gov't grade military weaponry? All you militia, survivalist types together couldn't put a dent in what the Army/Navy/Air Force/Marines can throw at you. A government gone awry will squash you like a bug. That argument is delusional at best and incredibly self serving.
If the money gets raised I would say there are people who still want the station. There are changes to be made if it's to remain viable, but it can be done.
They're definitely not galvanized steel and my house was built in 1970 so they could be cast iron. And it very well could have been a cast iron pipe he used to beat the dog. You're absolutely right, any long grey metal tube can be called a lead pipe.
We're getting away from the point though - this dude is messed up in the head. (I can't say scr_wed??) I'm sure if he comes out of this alive they're going to diagnose him as a paranoid schizophrenic. Many (not all, don't yell at me!) of these anti-government, survivalist types have some sort of personality disorder, whether it's schizophrenia, bipolar or PTSD. These are very real disorders that affect a larger percentage of the population than many realize. This man needed help a long time ago and now it's too late. I may be a liberal, but I'm hoping for a bullet to the head for this guy. Kinda like a dog with rabies, it will put him out of his misery.
From what I read, Mr. Dykes put up the speed bump and was angry when the neighbor messed it up so he shot at them.
I have lead pipes in my house. It's fairly common in older homes and if he'd been doing any renovations or alterations to his house that's probably where it came from.
I realize he was supposed to appear in court Wednesday so I assume he was out on bail? I'm sure he knew he was probably going to serve some time and he figured if he was going to go down, he was going to go down big. OR he sat and stewed about that upcoming court date, fuming about the evil gov't and how they were making his life hell and just snapped. As of right now we don't know and if this ends up the way most stand offs do, we may never know. I just hope that child comes out of this ok.
No one is forcing. The BSA are voluntarily changing their stance on this. Even with membership dwindling, they could have gone on just as they were and nothing could have been done about it, much like the church. I believe their decision is less about acceptance and more about their bank account, but such is life running a business.

No one is disputing that every single man and woman who is a citizen of the US can own a firearm. (I'm disregarding felons and others who are legally barred from ownership.) I'm not sure how that boils down to gun "enthusiasts" thinking they can have just whatever type weapon they desire. THIS is where the dispute lies. No one is trying to take away your guns. Even if they wanted to, logistically it is impossible for the gov't to confiscate all guns in this country. I call straw man on that one. If you want to wallpaper your living room with pistols and your bedroom with shotguns, go for it. Strap it to your forehead and take a stroll down the street. I don't care.
What sensible people are asking is that we limit the distribution of our deadliest weapons, weapons that have absolutely NO use other than killing as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Strict background checks for ALL gun sales, mental health screenings and treatment for those diagnoses. What is the reasonable argument against this? You still get your guns and the rest of us get peace of mind.
Back on topic: I hope they go through with dropping the ban. Every little boy, gay, straight or other, deserves the memories and experience that go along with scouting. And congratulations to the gay dads who will be able to lead their sons' dens and enjoy those things with them.
What part of "Well regulated" is it that YOU don't understand?
