PJI Fights For Christmas Free Speech Rights

Los Angeles – The Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) filed a lawsuit against the City of Santa Monica after a nearly 60-year tradition was unconstitutionally terminated by city officials.

Each Christmas season, for nearly 60 years, visitors of the Palisades Park in Santa Monica, California, were able to enjoy diverse displays—privately hosted—featuring different aspects of the Nativity scene. This annual tradition was bombarded in recent years with challenges from adamant atheists. The complaints led the City to opening up the display spaces to others interested in using them on a first-come first-serve lottery basis. In 2011 atheists collaborated together, and secured 18 of the 21 spaces. They left spaces empty, and filled others with anti-religious, secular statements.

One of the atheists was quoted as saying, “the atheist groups had no real desire to set up displays, but wanted to counter the Nativity scenes in size and message.” In response to the increased competition for spaces, and the potential for greater controversy, the City Council of Santa Monica opted to do away with the annual tradition instead of welcoming free speech.

The lawsuit, filed by Los Angeles area Becker Law Firm with PJI attorney Michael Peffer as co-counsel, aims to reinstate the long-held tradition, and restore the free-speech that has been banned.

“Stopping this tradition is one of the worst things the City could have done. They have, in effect, given in to the atheists' demands,” said Brad Dacus, president of PJI. “Government officials throwing out traditional free speech opportunities due to fear of controversy is unwise, and unconstitutional, behavior,” Dacus noted.

That sure paints a dirty picture. What I'm seeing is bullying, being pushy and doing evil. The Christians over there need to push back. And the city needs some sllab. Christians were slaughtered in the arenas and it looks like a repeat. Backing down to the athiests is a great big NOT!!

LOL eileen you were supporting the Atheists' candidate of choice, Rev. Wright Mooslem Obama not but a few weeks ago. Standing firm with... how did one of the other Liberal conglomerate posters up here describe Christians? Sociopaths wasn't it? Then I believe it was Tonto who declared him a "Laid back" person. These Liberals that proclaim it is the Conservatives that are trying to control people.

So which is it gonna be eileen? You gonna keep allying yourself with the Liberal permanent victim groups who really are out to tell people what to do and stop any opinion, faith or belief that doesn't support them? Or our you gonna come to your senses?

Um Who is Rev. Wright Mooslem? The only thing I'm talking about is the push and pull between the Christians and the athiests. It shouldn't matter who I voted for. I don't see eye to eye with Obama on everything and I could care less about Rev. whosit. Obama stated he's a Christian but doesn't go to church much. Heck. Neither do I. I think you need to come to my side. Ya! That's a good idea.Is your face all red? Are you ready to strangle me? Well. When your over the shock I'll be waiting for your fun reply. That was a good one. Come to my side. I bet your purple by now. I'm good. Oh ya.

Rev. Wright Mooslem Obama.... One descriptive string there until the name...

eileen it is all connected in the Liberal world. Christianity equals White men in their view. When you support one side of their political machine you support the other.

Oh. Geez. This stuff is confusing. Just when I think I have a handle on something I find out I don't. I'm not sure what this political machine thing is. I have a feeling learning all this stuff is going to take a very long time. It's like being in a big castle with a thousand rooms and all kinds of secret tunnles and twists and turns. Is that about right?

As far as all the political stuff I don't get the connection between Who I voted for and how I feel about different things. Why should how I think have anything to do with anything? I believe what I believe. Period. Am I supposed to think a certain way because I voted for a dem? If so then I guess I don't follow the rules. Maybe I'm one of those independants though I haven't studied up on that yet.

It's pretty simple eileen. Anything you believe in, found comforting or you associate with family life. Pretty much anything to do with American life prior to 1995 is evil and racist to the Liberal mind. That includes Christianity. Through their efforts and your vote the Liberals will keep attempting to do away with whatever is left.

Just because Pres. Obama is a black man doesn't mean he's stupid. Far from it. I see him as very smart, cares about all of us and he has a big job on his hands. I may have balked yesterday but that was then. I had time to think and I feel he'll have to do what ever it takes to get this country on it's feet and if you don't agree thats fine.

I don't agree but no one said people have to agree on things. I respect where you stand though.

I did a quick check and I didn't realize he'd written so many books. Which one do you suggest I start with?

I looked up what an independant is and it's me to a T. I don't feel life before 1995 was evil. In 1995 I was so busy I didn't have time to read a newspaper but life was good. I had no complaints and no one around me ever talked politics so again I'm clueless. This stuff is way above my head. I have strong points but politics isn't one of them. My entire family wasn't into politics the way most people are who post here so if there was all the fighting and everything I see here I wasn't aware of it but if it happened I'm sure I would have been aware of it but there was nothing. There was no fighting or deep conversations and that included family, friends and neighbors. Everyone voted according to Dem. or Rep. That's where I was when I landed here. Didn't know much and boy oh boy was I in for a shock.Still get the willies with wondering where we're going but I do feel that somehow things will work out. Don't know how but I'm not getting paid to do the thinking and problem solving. Even if Mr. Romney had won I think the same thing would be happening. Trying to figure out how to get out of debt with the fighting of course. To bad the zillionairs don't just throw a few billion at the debt. I'm sure they would get a nice tax write off.Just an idea because I sure don't know what to do.
