“They did try to leave the country. That is what they wanted. It was their land not the feds. The states were supposed to control the federal government but, instead, the federal government became oppressive. They didn't want to take over the federal government and made no attempt to do so. The 10th amendment guaranteed the right to secede. There is no logical argument that refutes that.”
The Tenth Amendment:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Unfortunately for those who rely on the Tenth Amendment it is superceded by Article VI of the Constitution itself:
“This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; . . . shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby”
And it further requires:
“The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
