Great job! I have been to watch a relative play in a tournament and Mr. Miller is really doing a wonderful service to the community.
I am very hopeful for this project. It would be a tremendous benefit to our town if done correctly. My concern would be that our Parks department could not run it. We have tried to rent facilities with them before and they are very unresponsive.
We rented the softball/volleyball complex and they wouldn't allow any food to be brought in because they have a concession stand, but yet wouldn't open their stand to sell food--which is Ludacris and all they would respond is, 'that's our policy.' Very frustrating.
I don't disagree with you. You make a valid point.
Personally I think we should demand the convention center be combined with the activities center the Parks and Rec keeps talking about. A multipurpose building would have a better chance of success.
I think because we have the Capitol in our own backyard, we have forgotten how impressive it is. I imagine the people in St.Louis feel the same about the arch.
I am not blind, I understand that Columbia, Branson, etc... does have more to offer. However, every business in the state can be effected by what goes on over at the Capitol 5 months a year. Business groups WILL COME in order to be able to show a large show of support over at the Capitol.
I'm not saying Jefferson City is utopia, but seriously we have some unique places--Central Dairy, Arris pizza, Prison Brews, Schaeffer House to name a few. These are pieces of the puzzle that make for an entertaining stay. I am not a pollyanna by any means-- even if we built it, I have little faith in our city leaders to run anything efficiently. I am just saying we have more to offer than fast food.
I travel to approximately 4-6 conventions yearly throughout the Midwest. I have never seen a convention center in a mall parking lot.
We have 1 amenity in JC that no one else has and that is the State Capitol. This facility, to be sucessful, must be located in that area. To do otherwise would be a mistake. All the Lake of the Ozark facilities are on the water because that is their uniqueness--no one else has a lake. Well, no one else has a Capitol. Always play to your strengths.
I have always been a supporter of a convention center but I am beginning to think that maybe we really can't support one. If the people who are in that industry say it won't work, maybe they know better than we do.
I am supportive of a conference center, but I am disappointed with paying someone $30K to tell us which is the best proposal. Our community pays way to much for outside 'experts'. I personally feel we have the expertise of people in our own community to make a reasonable choice.
I'm not being a smarty pants...... But why should taxpayer money be spent for employee memberships? Shouldn't they buy theirs like the rest of us?
Awesome! Love Sam's Club.
"Debra Runzi, guidance director for the Jefferson City Public Schools, believes it might be partially due to the fact that Jefferson City serves a transient population."
Really????? Any data that I have ever seen reflects the opposite. Jeff City does not have the influx that other communities face.
