You know, both my doctor and dentist took my personal information, scanned in my insurance cards, and even took my picture with a digital camera to add to my electronic file. Wonder if this information is any more safe sitting in their servers than the information that was scanned by the Revenue Department? Just saying.....
No surprise here. I have watched as more and more of my rights as a citizen in this state have been taken away in the name of "jobs" and "fairness to employers". It sure would be nice if these same employers actually treated their employees fairly, gave them full employment, provided benefits, and paid them a living wage.
Also, if you work they pretty much require you to have a car these days. If you own a car, you pay property tax. I know several couples that together make $70,000 a year and rent. They don't pay any property tax beyond what they pay for their cars. How should they be viewed by society?
Oh yes...the $500.00 I pay a year in income tax to the state of Missouri is going to make a difference for me if I get it back. However, the hundreds of dollars in sales tax are going to make a difference. I would be in favor of giving corporations a tax break if they would 1). Hire more individuals 2). Pay a living wage. As their actions have shown from past tax breaks, this is not going to happen. Also, those who work at low paying jobs are gainfully employed. It is not their fault that they don't make enough to avoid having to ask for public assistance.
Finally, there may be folks living off the public dole...but there are also several corporations getting public assistance as well that don't need it.... just saying. Anyway, in this overwhelmingly Republican state, I know that I will never get my opinion fairly considered..so why bother.
"While some lawmakers praised the song, others suggested it seemed a little too high-cultured for Missouri and might sound better with a fiddle or some country twang."
Are you kidding me? No wonder folks outside this state see us as a bunch of rednecks. This statement explains why intelligent people avoid this state, and those born here leave once they are old enough to do so.
With individuals like this leading our state, no wonder we are getting the legislation that we are. I am very frightened for our future.
You really can't believe what you are writing? The fact of the matter is that $10.00 in sales tax for someone making $250,000 a year is less of a burden than for someone who makes $13,000 a year. Sales taxes are regressive.
Also, doesn't the Republican Party say they are the party that doesn't raise taxes. Well yes, they don't raise corporate or income taxes. Instead they raise sales taxes and fees. Nice. The Republican Party is full of hypocrites. They do not represent the view of the working man. Maybe someday this state will wake up to that fact...but I doubt it.
Oh and P.S....not everyone who is poor lives off the public dole. Of those who do, many have to seek additional assistance because they are not paid a living wage. Maybe if the corporations would really "trickle down" the wealth as the Republicans say will happen with all these tax breaks, you would have less folks depending on public assistance.
Typical Republican tactic. If the vote doesn't go their way, they do whatever is needed to make sure things are turned in their favor. That means either removing from a committee those that voted against them or disenfranchising voters. For those of you that believe we still live in a Democracy, keep living in that fantasy world.
Nice. We wouldn't want to risk getting into a wage war with the #49 ranked state this year. Since this is the year they renegotiate our health insurance contracts, I can't wait to see how much of my "relevant" salary increase from last year goes towards paying the increased premium. Don't worry, however, they are going to give me a break on my very small state income tax bill to help out. Of course, they are going to raise the sales tax I pay to do it.
