I never made any mention to the fact that we should use the state pen for any office space. It needs to become a historic landmark. The building is over 180 years old. The citizens of JC should embrace their heritage-good and bad. Other cities in MO draw thousands of tourists every year with their embracement of historical sites (St. Louis, St.Charles). If you want to revitalize an area and give it character look to what history you hold, don't just slap up another cookie-cutter building. Also, everyone should take a chance to go on one of the tours of the pen. They are well worth a person's time; furthermore, why just read about history when you can touch and see it in real life!
Boo to Gov. Nixon for passing a bill to tear down the old pen. It is full of history. With a town full of old unused office buildings, you would think they could pick a better place to plop down another state office building!
