Tobacco taxes have more then doubled in the past decade, when is enough? Why not tax alcohol products for a change since there are more deaths per year related to that.

CVPI 3 years, 4 months ago on Neighbors upset by electric cooperative's tree-cutting

This is not a new thing. Cutting and trimming trees in a power line's right of way has been done for many, many years across the US. There are many trees that can be planted that will not interfere with power lines and most Co-Ops will plant one of those trees for you if requested free of charge. It just plainly boils down to the simple question of, do you want trees or power for your home and neighbors?

I drive in Springfield 3 times a year, does that mean I should pay Springfield (or Greene County) taxes even though I live in Jeff.?

CVPI 3 years, 7 months ago on City continues to seek annexation of Hampton Inn, Comfort Suites

I agree with JCsleeper on de-annexing some areas. But, this just goes to show how our city officials operate - on GREED. Not to mention how big of crybabies the area hotel owners that CHOSE to be inside city limits are. The Owners' of the 2 hotels in subject were smart enough to abide by current laws and not have to pay lodging tax to Jeff. City and now others are saying that it's "unfair"? How is it fair to make them 2 hotels pay tax now when they haven't had to by law for many years? Jeff City area hotel owners and government need to grow up. Quit boo-hooing.

CVPI 4 years, 6 months ago on Campaign targets texting, driving

The ignorance of most parents and readers of this article is shocking. Did any of you stop to consider that if a person is under the age of 18, they legally cannot bind into a cell phone contract? With that said, who is paying the bill? The parents/grandparents/guardians. If everyone was as concerned as implied, then take text messaging off the contract period. If it's not there to be used, then guess what, it can't be used. Wise up mid-Missourians. Doing a lot of things while in a vehicle (moving or not) is dangerous but good "role models" are not in place either. You do not realize how many times I've seen police officers for example, texting, talking, using the pc, eating, etc, etc, while driving around town or at higher rates of speed on the freeway. This is not a "single" problem but rather multiple.
