Tony Hawley is the copy desk editor at the Jefferson City News Tribune. He is responsible for copy editing all of the content that appears in the News Tribune, both by working with local reporters on their stories and by curating the various wire services to which the paper subscribes. He is also in charge of determining the placement of those wire stories, as well as writing headlines to accompany them. He also designs a number of pages each day for the print edition of the paper. He joined the staff in this role in 2022, but it is not his first stint with the News Tribune. He previously served as a member of the sports staff from 1993-2016, eventually reaching the post of assistant sports editor before leaving the News Tribune. He won numerous awards for sportswriting and column writing during his time on the sports staff. He is a native of Davenport, Iowa, and a 1992 graduate of Truman State University.
