A study indicates breast cancer survivors who practice yoga feel less fatigue and have less chronic inflammation – a condition that raises risks of other diseases, including heart disease and diabetes.

Researcher Janice Kiecolt-Glaser of Ohio State University compared data on women who did yoga twice a week for three months and women who did not do this. She checked six months after they started, which was three months after the yoga ended:

“Three months after the group had ended, fatigue was 57 percent lower in the women in the yoga group, and inflammation was lower in the yoga group women by 13 to 20 percent.”

Kiecolt-Glaser thinks the results may also apply to other people with fatigue and inflammation.

The study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology was supported by the National Institutes of Health.
