Friends Jenna Dillon and Abriana Gillette, both 8, make homemade paper together by pressing out and soaking up the excess water with sponges at the Runge Nature Center Handcrafter Paper-making Naturally event Saturday morning. Sheets of homemade paper were made by blending recycled paper and natural materials including feathers, flowers and snake skins.

The wet pulpy fibers settled under the surface of the water in a decidedly murky fashion. But for the three young girls working to press their own sheets of handmade paper on Saturday afternoon, the goop felt like a lot of fun.
