Central Bank teller Rachel Seidel spends just a few minutes scanning checks into the bank’s system. The bank has seen the check volume decline substantially. A whole room once devoted to separating checks has been replaced by this small desktop scanner.

The decline of personal check usage seems to be glaringly obvious as “No Checks Accepted” stickers adhere to business countertops, and consumers make purchases online or transfer money through Paypal accounts.
