As the water spurt suddenly intensifies, workers rush back to the spot where a pressure bypass gave way Tuesday morning at the Missouri American Water High Service Building. Four pumps located in the building generate the water pressure needed for the water system. Crews clamped a leak on an opposing line but then had to wait for an additional saddle clamp to arrive from out of town.

A ruptured 6-inch water main at Missouri American Water left most of its 11,000 customers without water Tuesday morning, causing schools to let out early and many employers to send their workers home. The resulting boil order remains in effect.

Those pumps look pretty old to me. That whole room is kind of a dirty mess too.

You can't actually see the pumps Lifer. They are on the front of the motors. I have seen some pump houses before and that one looks like it's in good shape. I don't think they should have showed the picture myself. Now the entire world knows what the pump system looks like there. Way to think of security there NT.

JC, The item that says Flow Serve is the pump, the item that is green is the other pump, and looks like the older of the two. The piping is what is of concern, and the root cause of the failure? I hope they will tell us? Rob
