Descendants of Dred Scott were on hand Wednesday in the House of Representatives in the Missouri Capitol for the unveiling of a bust of Scott that will go into the Hall of Famous Missourians. From left, Sarah Madison and daughter, Alyssa, 5, Dred Scott Madison and Lynne Jackson. Jackson is a great-great-grandchild of Scott, as is Dred Scott Madison. Alyssa’s dad is great-great-great-grandson, but was unable to make the ceremony.

Dred Scott honored at Missouri Capitol ceremony
Dred Scott, the former slave who sued for his freedom in a St. Louis court and helped galvanize anti-slavery efforts around the nation in the 19th century, was inducted Wednesday into the Hall of Famous Missourians.
