As part of a “Get Acquainted with the Staff” segment during the Jefferson City Public Schools’ opening session for teachers and staff, Supt. Brian Mitchell (center, with microphone) asked 18 volunteers what their biggest “claim to fame” or “brush with fame” has been. Gara Loskill (right), Character Education mentor coordinator, told Mitchell she had two — being in a video in New York City with Heidi Klum’s ex, and “finding barbecue for the president of the United States (George W. Bush) when he came to the Miller Center” in 2006.

Jefferson City’s Public Schools will move forward on developing the academies model as the way high school students will be taught in the future, the district’s teachers and staff were told Monday morning during the annual opening session before school begins.
