A Nissan Leaf is plugged into a charging station during the dedication of Electric Avenue on the Portland State University campus in Portland, Ore. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011. One block of a street running through the campus features seven EV charging stations from six manufacturers, including a quick charge station where students and visitors can plug in electric cars, bicycles, trucks and motorcycles.

Electric car drivers will get a charge out of a block-long stretch of a downtown Portland street that’s been dubbed “Electric Avenue,” and it may also help the automotive industry and others make important decisions as the use of electric cars evolves.
