Marvin "Rod" D. Roderick

Marvin "Rod" D. Roderick, 93, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014, at his home. He was born October 30, 1920, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of the late Dee and Hazel (Hawkins) Roderick. On November 14, 1942, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean Renfro, who preceded him in death. Rod was a 1940 graduate of Westport High in Kansas City. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II transporting troops from 1942-1945. Rod was a sheet metal worker for the Local 36 from 1957-1984. Rod was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2693, VFW Post 1003, American Legion Post 5 and the Elks Lodge #513. He is survived by one daughter: Patty Jo Roderick of Jefferson City; one granddaughter: Michelle Reynolds of St. Charles; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson: Roderick Spangler. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2014, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Murl Nash officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to charity of the donor's choice.
