Richard “Dick” Vernon Rice

Richard Vernon (Dick) Rice, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, at Golden Living Center. He was born January 29, 1931, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Vernon Rice and Naomi (Phelps) Rice-Trigg. Dick was a 1948 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended Louisiana State University. Dick enlisted in the United States Army for six years, and served during the Korean War. In 1955 he married Rose Marie Temmen. They relocated to Southern California in 1960, where he resided for 50 years until his retiring in Jefferson City. Dick was employed as a regional sales manager in the office furniture industry. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Optimist Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the American Legion Post 5. Dick is survived by his son: Bradley Rice and his wife (Julee) of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons: Ryan Rice and Matthew Rice of Dallas, Texas; his sister: Pat Abernathy of Jefferson City, and many other family members and friends. A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Burial will be private for family at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Legion.
