Mrs. V. Lucille Whitaker, age 89 years, of Jefferson City, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. She was born on January 13, 1925 in Turney, Mo., the daughter of Sidney and Clara Holliway Taylor. She was married on December 26, 1944, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Enos Whitaker, who preceded her in death on June 20, 1999. A resident of the central Missouri area for most of her life, Lucille graduated from Cameron High School and the Chillicothe Business College. She was employed with the State of Missouri for 41 years in the Missouri Governors Office, Missouri State Senate, and the Missouri Supreme Court. Lucille was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Democratic Club. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed all sports. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and fishing. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include: three children, Kelly Whitaker and his wife Michele of Holts Summit, Mo. and their children Kerry Pikey and her husband Eric, Tiffany Mitchell and her husband Tom, Ryan Whitaker, Ashley Grimpo, and Christopher Grimpo, and their grandchildren, Jacob, Josh, Hailey, Mason, Aaron and Madeline; Colleen Cremer and her husband Frank of Montgomery, Texas and their children, Kim Thomas and her husband Brian, Keith Cremer and his wife Jill and Kevin Cremer and his wife Jaye, and their grandchildren, Sara, Matthew, Ella, and Evan; and LuAnne Wekenborg and her husband Bruce of Jefferson City, Mo. and their children, Brooke Mitchell and her husband Leigh, Chelsea Wekenborg, and Corey Wekenborg, and their grandchildren, Madison and Zoe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Clara Taylor; her husband, Enos Whitaker; one sister, Fern Taylor; and one brother, Lavon Taylor. Graveside services and interment were conducted at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Step-Up for Downs Syndrome honoring her great- granddaughter, Madeline Mitchell.
