Gerald “Jerry” A. Colvin U.S. Veteran

June 23, 1937 - May 5, 2013

Mr. Gerald A. "Jerry" Colvin, age 75 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home. Jerry was born June 23, 1937, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of William C. and Mildred F. Zumwalt Colvin. He was married on August 4, 1957, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Marie Scott. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Jerry was a 1956 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended Lincoln University. He served two years in the United States Army and four years in the United States Army Reserves from July, 1959 until July, 1965. While in the Army, he graduated from the U.S. Army Supply School and Special Weapons and Missile School. While serving in Europe during the Berlin Crisis, he received a Top Secret United States Clearance and a Top Secret NATO Clearance. Jerry became employed with the Exchange National Bank in May, 1956, and with the exception of two years spent in the service, he was employed with the bank for 45 years. He began his banking career as a mail boy and retired in 2002, as Vice-President and Compliance Officer. He was a graduate of the American Bankers Association's National Installment Credit School, the National Compliance School, and the Graduate School of Banking. He was also a graduate of the Weaver School of Real Estate, and Diebold's ATM School. He attended other banking-related seminars and organizations. Jerry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson City having joined the church at the age of 12. He was installed as a charter member of the Jefferson City Evening Lions at its charter meeting on February 20, 1971, over 40 years ago. Over the years, he served in many capacities in the club including president and also received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. In the early years, he had a stretch of 19 years of perfect attendance. He was also a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. Jerry enjoyed his banking career and the many friends he had in banking throughout Mid-Missouri. He loved being a member of the Lions Club and the many friends there. Survivors include: his wife of 45 years, Marie Colvin; one daughter, Nancy Gibler and her husband Darrell of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, Steve Colvin and his wife Shelly of Springfield, Mo.; two grandchildren, Alexandra Gibler and Sam Colvin; one brother, Robert L. Colvin and his wife Elsie of Jefferson City, Mo.; two nieces, Pamela Mueller and Karen Wolfe; one nephew, Robert C. Colvin. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Colvin; and two sisters, Virginia Brock and Helen Duenkel. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:30 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Brint Hilliard officiating. Graveside services and entombment with military honors will be held at the mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, the Goldschmidt Cancer Center, or the Siteman Cancer Center of St. Louis, Mo.
