Dorothy Ann Pace

Dorothy Ann Mundy Pace, 66, of Brighten, Mo., passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, in Kansas City, Mo., after a long battle with cancer. She was born October 23, 1946, in Springfield, Mo., to Ella Marie Cross Mundy and Olen Watson Mundy of Brighton, Mo. Dorothy attended school in Morrisville, Mo., and in France, where her father was stationed after World War II. She returned to Brighton and graduated from Marion C. Early High School in Morrisville in 1964. In 1972, Dorothy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics from The School of the Ozarks at Point Lookout, Mo. She was a mother and homemaker before teaching Food Service and Nutrition at the Job Corps Center in Excelsior Springs. In 1979, she became the Food Service Director for the Excelsior Springs School District. Dorothy then supervised the School Food Service Program in Kansas City, Kan., until she moved to Joplin, Mo., to become the School Food Service Director there. In 1999, she was hired as a supervisor of the USDA's School Food Service Program for the state of Missouri. She lived in Jefferson City, Mo until November of 2012, when she moved to be with her daughter and granddaughter. Dorothy was an artisan: a talented seamstress, gourmet cook, a weaver and teacher of white oak basketry. She taught basketry in her home studio and through Nichols Career Center for more than 10 years and was a member of the Ozark Mountain Basketweavers' Guild. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Jean Mundy Stephens of Bolivar, Mo.; a brother, James Anderson Mundy, formerly of Pleasant Hope, Mo.; a daughter, and a granddaughter. Her mother, Ella Marie Cross Mundy and her father, Olen Watson Mundy, preceded Dorothy in death.
