Dorothy Beatrice Sappington

Dorothy Beatrice Crump Sappington, age 85, of Hartsburg, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at her birthplace and home near Hartsburg. She was born August 17, 1927, to Arthur William "Dud" Crump and Nannie Alice Roberts Crump. Dorothy married Billy Reed Sappington on September 22, 1945, in Ashland. She was a member of the Ashland Baptist Church; worked outside the home; was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; and was an avid enthusiast of country music. Survivors include: her daughter, Judy Skouby of Vichy; grandchildren, Amber Bedsworth of Hartsburg, Jessica Anderson of Kingdom City, Carmen Mann of Hartsburg, Sgt. Anthony Skouby of San Antonio, Texas, and William Skouby of Hartsburg; great-grandchildren, Taylor Bedsworth, Kelsey Bedsworth, Cole Rice, Sydney Anderson, Dalton Mann, Abbi Mann, Felicity James, Aspen Skouby, Payton Skouby, Hunter Skouby, and Cooper Skouby; and great-great-grandchild, Avery Propst. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two daughters, Joan Beverly Myers and Leslie Suzanne Sappington. Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Ashland Baptist Church, with burial following in New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. A special thank you is extended to Taylor Sherman for the companionship provided to Dorothy and Columbia Hospice Compassus. Memorial contributions are suggested to the cemetery funds of New Salem Cemetery or Goshen Church.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your family member. I was raised by my aunt, Mina Corder who used to take me over to Dud & Nannie's house when she would go to visit. I believe she (and I) were related in some way and regret that I never paid more attention to the genealogy when I had resources available. My aunt passed many years ago. I remember my visits to Dud and Nannie with fond affection. Although I never knew Miss Dorothy or any of Dud & Nannie's other family, I saw this and wanted to extend my condolences to the family.
