Doris Marie Brendel

August 17, 1946 - March 14, 2013

Doris Marie Brendel, age 66 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Doris was born August 17, 1946, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Francis J. and A. Movelle Hawkins Sweeney. She was married on June 11, 1966 in Jefferson City, Mo., to her high school sweetheart, Ralph V. Brendel. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Doris was a 1964 graduate of Helias High School. She later graduated from Lincoln University in 1988 with a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting and Economics. Doris was employed as an administrative secretary with Exchange National Bank for several years until her retirement in 1995. Before her work at the bank, she worked with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, B.C. Christopher Stock Brokers, I.M. Simon and Company, R. Rowland Stock Brokers, Central Missouri Distributors and with the Missouri Department of Revenue. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Jefferson City Optimists Club, the New York Institute of Finance, the Jefferson City AARP Club, and a past member and officer of the South School P.T.A. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Merit Badge Counselor and was proud to be a charter member of the "QVC" Quacker Ladies Buyers Club. Doris enjoyed trout fishing with her husband, sewing, crocheting, and traveling during her retirement. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and loved bird watching in her back yard. Survivors include: her husband of 46 years, Ralph Brendel; one daughter, Michele Bailey of Jefferson City, Mo.; one grandson, Andrew Joseph Bailey; numerous nieces and nephews; her special friend and caregiver, Sharon Hawkins; and her other special friends, Debbie Scheppers and Marilyn Evers. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Joseph Sweeney, on October 11, 2007; and her mother, Adelia Movelle Sweeney, on October 16, 2006. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Hilary Andebo officiating. Graveside services and entombment will be held in the Mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Central Missouri Alzheimer's Association, Father Flanagan's Girls and Boys Town, or the Carmelite Monastery.
