Billy R. Henderson

Mr. Billy R. Henderson, age 86 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Versailles, Mo. Bill was born April 20, 1926 in Guthrie, Mo., the son of Claude R. and Sarilda Zumwalt Henderson. He was married in January 1947 to Martha Ann Cummins, who preceded him in death. On January 5, 1977, in Jefferson City, Mo., he married Charlotte Allen. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City and Lake Ozark area, Bill graduated from Jefferson City High School and the Jefferson City Junior College. He proudly served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne in Europe during World War II. Bill was employed with Delong's Inc. for 25 years. Later, he was the owner and operator of Mid-Missouri Structural Steel for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1993. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003; a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Oliver Buehrle Post 17. Bill enjoyed bowling, was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts, and at a younger age, was a Golden Glove Boxer. He also enjoyed Jefferson City Jays and Mizzou Tiger Sports. Survivors include: his wife of 36 years, Charlotte Henderson; nine children, Becky Henderson Long and her husband Don of San Antonio, Texas, Pam Henderson Hold of Austin, Texas, Bill Henderson and his wife Pat of Frisco, Texas, Terry Henderson and his wife Chang of Duluth, Ga., Steve Henderson of Lubbock, Texas, Tim Henderson of Lubbock, Texas, Jackie Henderson Sartor and her husband Russell of Justiceburg, Texas, Cindy Henderson Laun and her husband Karl of Bloomington, Ill., and Debbie Henderson McCarty of Lubbock, Texas; two step-children, Mike Allen and his wife Melanie of Lee's Summit, Mo. and Vickie Sunshine Allen of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; three brothers, Tom Henderson, Russell Henderson, and Homer Henderson; two sisters, Ruby Harrison and Mary Dean Colvin; one step-son, John Allen; one granddaughter, Gina Renee Wells; and one great-granddaughter, Autumn Sartor. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2013, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Daniel Hilty officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Central Missouri Honor Flight or the American Cancer Society.
