Aileen Denning

Mrs. Aileen Denning, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Adams Street Place. Aileen was born on February 7, 1926, in Norway, Kan., a daughter of Roy and Julia (Holgerson) Gile. She was married on July 19, 1946 at the Smokey Hill Army Field in Salina, Kan., to Richard L. Denning, who preceded her in death on December 15, 2003. Aileen graduated from District 48 School in Norway, Kan. She was a member of the Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Salina, Kan., a member of the Native Daughters, and a charter member of the Blackhawk Saroptimist. After moving to Jefferson City in 2005, Aileen became a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was employed with the Moline Public Library for 20 years, retiring in 1983. In her free time, Aileen enjoyed reading, various puzzles, and baking and cooking for her family and friends. Survivors include: her son, Richard (Debra) Denning of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven sisters, Beth Whitney of Ponca City, Okla., Marie (Jack) Nelson of Snelling, Calif., Joan (Don) Meili of Lincoln, Kan., Louise Kempton of Pratt, Kan., Trude (Ed) Heide of Abilene, Kan., Janet Shrader of Concordia, Kan. and Martha (Jack) Gebhardt of Salina, Kan.; one brother, Perry (Margaret) Gile of Beatrice, Neb.; three grandchildren, Ryan (Cassie) Denning of Fulton, Mo., Alex Denning of Alameda, Calif. and Katie Denning of Jefferson City, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard; two sisters, Jean Heisley and Phyllis Gould; one brother, Glen Gile; brothers-in-law, Willard Heisley, Chuck Kempton, Royal Whitney and Winston Shrader; and niece, Karen Kempton. A Celebration of Aileen's Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Rob Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held after the service. Graveside services will be held at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Norway, Kan. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church Mission Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
