Robert Buell U.S. Veteran

October 4, 1923 - June 17, 2013

Robert Klockars Buell, 89, of Jefferson City, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born October 4, 1923, in New Haven, Connecticut, a son of Raymond and Rose (Klockars) Buell. He was a 1941 graduate of Branford High School in Branford, Connecticut. Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945 in the European Theatre of Operations as a mechanic and tail-gunner, completing 50 missions over Europe and surviving three crashes, earning him three Bronze Star Awards. On August 31, 1946, Bob was united in marriage in Branford, Connecticut, to Ruth Woods, who survives at their home. Following his military service, Bob attended the University of Connecticut and the University of Baltimore. He had a degree in Transportation and a Practioners License with the I.C.C. He was employed by the International Silver Company in New Haven, Connecticut, the U.S. Government in the Interstate Commerce Commission in Kansas City and the Public Service Commission in Jefferson City. Bob was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Cathedral of St. Joseph Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 35, American Legion Post 5, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17 and the United Sportsmen's Club. In addition to his wife of over 66 years, Bob is survived by two sons: Gregory R. Buell of Key West, Florida, and Robert S. Buell of Hot Springs, Arkansas; three granddaughters, 11 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, William B. Buell, in 2007. Friends will be received from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Catheral of St. Joseph, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Dylan Schrader officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Veterans Service Officer Fund.
