Gertrude E. Hood

Gertrude E. Hood, 93, of St. Martins, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Westphalia Hills. She was born March 15, 1920, in St. Elizabeth, Missouri the daughter of the late George P. and Christine M. (Huchtemeyer) Bax. On September 6, 1942 she was united in marriage to Andrew "Andy" J. Hood, he preceded her in death on September 6, 2001. Gertrude had been employed with Cheseborough Ponds as a machine operator and quality controller for 17 years retiring in 1985. She had also been employed with International Shoe, Memorial Hospital and was a cook for Jefferson City Public School District. Gertrude and her husband were known throughout the area for making wedding cakes. She was a member of St. Martins Catholic Church. She is survived by two sons: Dennis Hood (Linda) of Jefferson City, and Larry Hood (Patricia) of Jefferson City; four daughters: Janet Ritter of Jefferson City, Dorothy Rooney of Kansas City, Geraldine Schaefer (Ralph ) of Jefferson City, and Peggy Manion of Windham, Maine; 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Joanie Hood; five siblings; and one son-in-law. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City with a prayer service to be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013, at St. Martin Catholic Church with Fr. Edwin Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St Martin Catholic Church Building Fund or Hospice Compassus.
