Lawrence "Shorty" Bernard Gladbach, age 60, of Mendon, Mo., died Monday, July 15, 2013, at his home in Mendon. Shorty was born in Brookfield, Mo., son of John and Agnes Ewald Gladbach on May 18, 1953. He married Geraldine Ellison on May 24, 1973. Shorty was a graduate of Northwestern High School in 1971. He was a life long farmer, owning a Missouri Century Farm and served as Western District Commissioner of Chariton County since 2008. Previously, he was employed by MFA Oil from 1995-2006. He was an active member of St. Raphael Parish and Parish council in Indian Grove and the Knights of Columbus. Shorty is survived by his wife Geraldine of the home in Mendon; four children and their spouses, Jess and Valerie Gladbach of Mendon, Kate and Cody Stark of Laclede, Becky and Blaine Adams of Cameron and John Gladbach and friend Libby Smith of Marceline; eight grandchildren, Courtney and Channing Gladbach of Mendon, Kerri Stark of Laclede, Shawn, Tori and Maisy Adams of Cameron and Sydney and Jake Gladbach of Marceline; one sister, Giny Baker and her husband Mike of Quincy, Ill.; six brothers and their spouses, Tom and Clarice Gladbach, Leonard and Lucille Gladbach, all of Mendon, Bill and Aggie Gladbach of Whitney, Texas, Jim and Sandra Gladbach of Grain Valley, Denis and Pat Gladbach of Jefferson City, Robert and Sandy Gladbach, Rothville; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes Gladbach; father-in-law, Bernard Ellison; sister, Margaret Bates; and brothers-in-law, Herman Almond and Jim Dowell. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael Parish Church, Indian Grove, Mo., Friday, July 19, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Rob Fields officiating. A Rosary will be said at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Breshears Memorial Chapel, Mendon, Mo., with visitation following from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Raphael Parish Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: St. Raphael Church Parish Cemetery, or the Hope Lodge of St. Louis and may be left at or mailed to: Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO 65236.
