James Patrick Schepers

James Patrick Schepers, 34, of Taos, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. He was born October 11, 1978, in Jefferson City, the son of Louis and Eleanor (Backes) Schepers. James was a 1997 graduate of Blair Oaks High School, where he played on the football and basketball teams and still holds the record for assists. He graduated from Columbia College with a degree in Business Administration and minor in Finance. James was a carpenter with The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 945, working predominately with Modern Interiors and Chambers-Freeman Drywall. He was a fan of all sports, football in particular, and has always been a big fan of the New England Patriots. He enjoyed playing cards and table tennis with his family and friends and spending time with his family, especially his sons. In death James has brought life to others through the gift of organ donation. On September 9, 2011, James was united in marriage to Kimberly Schmitz, who survives at their home. Other survivors include one son, Matthew Allen Schepers of the home; two stepsons, Brandon Webb of Linn, Mason Siebert of the home; his parents, Louis and Eleanor Schepers of Taos; four sisters: Judy Cassmeyer and husband Dale of Taos, Jeanne Blomberg and husband Jason of Jefferson City, Joanne Thessen and husband Greg of Indianola, Iowa, Joyce Luebbering and husband Greg of St. Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews and one great-niece. Friends will be received from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Taos Knights of Columbus Hall, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. J. David Maher officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the James Schepers Children's Education Fund.
