Ernest Richard Mullenax

Dr. Ernest Richard Mullenax, age 93, of Eldon, Mo., (formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Lakeside Meadows Nursing Home at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. Ernest Mullenax was born December 21, 1919, in Nebraska City, Neb. to the late Harvey and Ellen Mullenax. He was the oldest of seven children. Ernest married Margaret Louise Pickrel in June 1940, in Glenwood, Iowa. During WWII, Ernest served in the North Atlantic in the submarine service of the US Navy. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Margaret and Ernest moved to the Kansas City area, where he graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1948. He opened his first practice in Jefferson City, Mo., operating satellite offices in Rich Fountain and Iberia, Mo. He later opened a practice in Eldon, Mo. During the fifties, Ernest served as the secretary of the Missouri State Chiropractic Association. Ernest was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene in Eldon, Jefferson City, and other cities, teaching Sunday School, serving on the church board, and serving as pianist during worship services. He was married to Margaret for 48 years and to Phyllis for 22 years. He was a businessman, a caring physician, a loving husband, a great dad. He loved God, his wife, his children, his mom and dad, his entire family, his country. We will all miss him. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Medsker); his children: Douglas (Sherri) of Chrisman, Ill., Richard (Candy) of Greenwood, La., Patricia Derozier (Jerry) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Karen Hayse (Robert) of Lenexa, Kan.; two brothers and their spouses: Harvey of Rockport, Texas and Melvin of Plano, Texas; two sisters and their spouses: Norma Huffman of Gallatin, Mo., and Levina Rakes of Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren: Katelyn Mullenax, Robbie Mullenax, Cyndy Parker, Christi Mullenax, Sherline Romph, Mark Hayse, and Marjorie Bickel; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-granddaughters, all who loved their "grandpa-with-no-hair". Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; brothers, Bobby and Jack; grandson, Jeffrey Trice and great-granddaughter, Kelley Romph. His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at Flat Woods Baptist Church, 12 Mt. Carmel Road, Eldon, Mo., with Rev. Mark Hayse presiding.
