Joy Lea Barton

Joy Lea Barton, 77, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center. She was born September 8, 1935, in Winigan, Missouri, a daughter of Billie C. and Olive (Hoselton) Martin. Joy was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State University, where she earned her MBA. On September 1, 1957, Joy was united in marriage to William T. Barton, III, who preceded her in death on November 25, 2006. Joy taught elementary education and was a counselor in Newtown and Trenton, Missouri, for 35 years until her retirement. She was a member of First Christian Church, Missouri State Teachers Association and the YMCA swim group. Joy volunteered with the First Christian Church Food Pantry and enjoyed watching her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids sporting events. Survivors include three children: William T. Barton IV, and wife Paula of Savage, Minn., Kay Lea Foster and husband Russel of Jefferson City, Thayne Barton and wife DeAnn of Jefferson City; one brother, Gail Martin of Winigan, Missouri; one sister, Kay Morris of Milan, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Michelle Aucoin and husband Mike of Middleboro, Mass., Chris Barton and wife Amber of Jefferson City, Kyle Wilde of Jefferson City, Drew Wilde of New Orleans, La., Taylor Barton of Jefferson City, Alex Barton of Jefferson City, Taryne Barton of Jefferson City, Megan Foster of Jefferson City; and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Christian Church Food Pantry Program or First Christian Church.
